Scope and Content

From the Collection: The records of the Bloom Cattle Company date from 1872-1912. Additional materials concern James Sutherland and W. E. Anderson, who were involved in cattle operations for the Bloom Cattle Company and the Anderson Cattle Company.

The bulk of the collection consists of financial records. These include journals, ledgers, daybooks, bank statements, canceled checks, bills and receipts, cattle and corn tallies, and deposit books.

Legal documents include agreements of sale and other contracts.

Correspondence consists primarily of letters received by James Sutherland, manager of New Mexico operations, from the Bloom Cattle Company headquarters in Colorado. The series also includes personal correspondence to James and Pearl Sutherland and letters to and from Gertrude Johnson, James Sutherlands sister.

Also included in the collection are unbound sheets of abstracts of certificates and registers of certificates for Lincoln County, New Mexico.
