Letter Books, 1899 - 1906
Sub-Series
Scope and Contents
The materials in this subseries include books of carbon copies of letters sent to others by Mr. Bursum. Their content is mainly related to New Mexico politics and public affairs but sometimes business is woven into the correspondence as well. There are also letters regarding the New Mexico State Penitentiary when Bursum was its superintendent and from his term as sheriff of Socorro County. There are many significant recipients. The correspondence is written in both Spanish and English. There is often more than one letter on each page. The books have been boxed. There is a brief description of each one but these are very general. Please note: The books have been cleaned but many are in very poor condition. Their use is limited and must be directly supervised.
