Content Description

Papers, photographs and photo albums related to the Armer and Reid families of the Hillsoboro, New Mexico area. Includes three photograph albums depicting members of the Armer and Reid families, their angora goat ranching operations, scenes around the Gila National Forest, vacations, etc. There are 47 loose photos, most are cabinet card portraits. Many of these cabinet cards were made by the photographer Henry A. Schmidt in Chloride, New Mexico, and many of these depict members of the Reilly family. Also included in the collection are two diaries of Mary Reid, one from 1927-1928 and the other from 1940. Other materials include a stock certificate from the Iconoclast Mining and Milling Company, materials related the Parks family, several sheets of Robert Reid letterhead, a family tree of the related Armer, Reid, McGregor, Parks families, and some newspaper clippings related to the death of Sergeant Joseph F Parks on March 25, 1945 during WWII. A 1926 map of Grant County, New Mexico, one issue of the Deming Headlight, October 26, 1945, four issues of the Sierra County Advocate, from 1942, 1943, 1945 and 1952, one issue of the Sierra Free Press, September 7, 1916, as well as two books, Old Timers Talk in Southwestern New Mexico, by Ted Raynor, and New Mexico Recollections, by Raymond Schmidt, are transferred to Special Collections.
