Panfilo Gonzales Bible with family register
Content Description
Spanish language Bible, Santa Biblia, published in 1878 that belonged to Panfilo Gonzales of Doña Ana, New Mexico. Inscriptions indicate the Bible may have subsequently been the property of Felipe Garcia and Eulalia Gonzales (daughter of Panfilo Gonzales) and then Maximiano Garcia (grandson of Panfilo Gonzales). The Bible contains a handwritten family register, registro de familia, that documents births, baptisms, marriages and deaths of members of the Gonzales and Garcia families of Mesilla and Doña Ana. Other Doña Ana families mentioned include Costales, Contreras, Nieto, Rodriguez, Barela, Cuaron, Lopez, Apodaca and Ribera. Also included in the donation are genealogy trees for various members of the Gonzales and Garcia families, compiled by the donor.
