Content Description

Two bound volumes of copies of papers from Bradford and Mariosita Daily, early residents of Las Cruces and previous owners of the Nestor Armijo home. Bradford Daily, 1829-1875, served in the Mexican American War and the U.S. Civil War. He was a stage driver, freighter, and businessman in southern New Mexico, Texas and Arizona from the 1850s until his death in 1875. His wife was Mariosita Garrion, 1841-1928. One volume contains probate records from Dona Ana County settling the estate of Bradford Daily. It also includes business records and extensive legal papers in Spanish from the Villa de Aldama, state of Chihuahua, dating back as far as 1830 and presumably associated with the family of Mariosita Carrion. This includes the settling of the estate of her deceased father, Don Faustino Carrion, in 1854. The second volume contains Indian Depredation Claims of Bradford Daily, brought in 1892 by Mariosita Rea, widow of Bradford Daily. The court testimony from several persons who knew Bradford Daily, provides detail on his life.
