Content Description
Copies of 28 maps from the U.S. Reclamation Service and other sources mostly depicting Mexican land grants made in southern New Mexico. A series of maps produced by the USRS show areas along the Rio Grande near the Pedro Armendariz land grant, in the Jornada del Muerto from San Marcial to Engle. Another series of maps was created by Jay Turley, Wendell Hall, and Sidney Blout between 1900 and 1909 for the U.S. Surveyor General's office, Santa Fe, New Mexico, and depicts Mexican land grants made in Dona Ana County, including: Jose Manuel Sanchez Baca Grant, Santo Tomas de Yturbide Colony Grant, Francisco Garcia Grant, Santa Teresa Grant, Bracito Grant, Mesilla Civial Colony Grant, Dona Ana Bend Colony Grant, and the Refugio Colony Grant. Three maps surveyed by Elkins and Marmon in 1878 depict the Mesilla Civil Colony Grant, the Dona Ana Bend Colony Grant, and the Refugio Colony Grant.
