Jack Rittenhouse memoirs
Content Description
Copies of nine chapters of memoirs written by Jack D. Rittenhouse. The originals of these memoirs are held by Special Collections and Archives, Missouri State University Library, in Springfield, Missouri, in their Route 66 Oral History Collection. The copies were obtained by David Farmer in 2023 and donated to the NMSU Library Archives and Special Collections with permission from Missouri State University. According to Farmer, "Jack D. Rittenhouse wrote this nine-chapter set of memoirs for his family only as a draft with no intent for publication. Some of these chapters he sent around holiday time as his 'Christmas Letters." His first-born son, David Kimsey Rittenhouse (1938-2017), donated these typescripts to the Route 66 Oral History Collection, Special Collections and Archives, Missouri State University Libraries after he gave an interview relating to A Guide Book to Highway 66 written and published by his father. Some of the chapter are very lightly corrected by JDR; a few are dated."
