Collection consists of the territorial and New Mexico district court records for Quay County, New Mexico (1903-1921). Included are record books (1903-1912), case files (1903-1921), and other court material. Record books consist of various dockets (1903-1912) and court proceedings record books (1903-1912). Dockets include criminal (1903-1911) and civil (1903-1912) volumes. Court proceedings record books cover criminal (1903-1906) and civil (1903-1912) hearings. Case files consist of criminal cases 1-504, 2614 (1889-1911, 1921) and civil cases 2-1003, 1317 (1903-1912, 1918). Large gaps may exist between case files. Many case files are unnumbered. Many of the cases after 1911 are not part of this collection.

Historical Note:
Quay County, New Mexico was established in 1903 and formed part of the 4th Judicial District of the United States Territorial Courts in New Mexico. In subsequent years Quay County was transferred from the 4th to the 6th Judicial District (1904), from the 6th to the 8th Judicial District (1912), from the 8th to the 9th Judicial District (1921), and from the 9th to the 10th Judicial District (1950). Upon statehood in 1912, the Territorial Courts became the New Mexico District Courts.
