Scope and Content
Collection consists of official papers of Governor Apodaca. Executive papers include correspondence, proclamations, and appointments. Legislative papers include bills, veto messages and various other documents. State agencies, boards, committees, and institutions include materials from the Governors' Service Centers. Papers of state government contain materials from the National Governors' Conference. Special reports and issues pertain to drought, several state water projects and sewers, the Tierra Amarilla Clinic Raid, the Waste Isolation Pilot Plan (WIPP), the Elk Mountain road, the Anapra port of entry, and various other state issues and projects. Political papers contain correspondence and miscellaneous Democratic Party documents. Penal papers include pardons, extraditions, and prisoner correspondence. Press papers contain the correspondence and papers of the press secretary, speeches, and press releases. The governor's office papers and personal files include office and personal correspondence, the working files of the executive assistants to the governor, and miscellaneous publications and studies.

Biographical Note
Jerry Apodaca was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1934. A Democrat, he served in the New Mexico State Legislature (1966-1974) and as Governor of New Mexico (1975-1978).
