Scope and Contents
From the Series:
On February 20, 1905 "An Act to Organize and Equip a Company of Mounted Police for the Territory of New Mexico," was approved by the 36th Legislative Assembly. This act provided for the governor to raise and muster into service one Company of New Mexico Mounted Police to consist of one captain, one lieutenant, one sergeant and not more than eight privates. The Mounted Police was charged with preserving the peace and capturing persons charged with crime. John F. Fullerton of Magdalena was appointed Captain March 18, 1905 and replaced by Fred M. Fornoff April 2, 1906.
