Scope and Contents
Some confusion in the numbering of this legislature has arisen since there had been no election since the summer of 1851 when the First Legislature had met, and the same members served in this legislature. W. G. Ritch in The New Mexico Blue Book (1882) erroneously called this the "second session" of the First Legislative Assembly. However, the original instructions to the printer for the publication of the laws of the December, 1851 -- January, 1852 Legislative Assembly clearly designated it as the Second Assembly. The printed laws also designate the summer session of 1851 as the First Assembly and those of the later one as the Second Assembly.
