Scope and Content

From the Collection: Collection consists primarily of business records of the Historical Society of New Mexico and a broad range of historical documents. The business records include annual and biennial reports, and vouchers for the purchase of materials by the Historical Society of New Mexico. Most of the historical documents relate to political, military, and religious matters in New Mexico from the seventeenth to twentieth centuries. Includes an 1822 judgement by Cabildo president Manuel Baca quieting title to land belonging to Antonio Armijo in San Miguel del Vado; an 1846 letter from Diego Archuleta to Dona Dolores Lopes of Abiquiu Pueblo; printed reports of Col. Kit Carson describing campaigns against the Navajo in 1863 and 1864; and a diary of Jemez Alcade Sanches Vergara covering 1799 to 1829 which includes baptismal information and an account of a solar eclipse on June 16, 1806.

Some materials are in Spanish.
