Scope and Contents

The Board of Public Lands was created by act of the 33rd Territorial Legislative Assembly, March 16, 1899 to administer the sale, leasing and management of public lands granted to the Territory of New Mexico. The Board was composed of the Governor, Solicitor General and a Commissioner of Public Lands to be appointed by the Governor, with the consent of the Council, for a period of two years. Alpheus A. Keen was appointed Commissioner and the Board of Public Lands held its first meeting March 27, 1899.
