Content Description

The Rudy Padilla Paño Art Collection, 1974-2012, contains documents, photos, and media related to the New Mexican curator and prison arts educator Rudy Padilla, and his museum dedicated to showcasing the paño art form, The Hourglass Museum. Paños are illustrations drawn or painted on handkerchiefs and emerged from within West Coast and Southwest prisons with a predominately Chicano population. The collection houses Padilla’s incoming correspondence, administrative documents on the operations of The Hourglass Museum, notable exhibitions, photos of paño artists, production files and a videotape of the documentary “Paño Arte: Images from Inside”, as well as academic essays and articles on the topic of paños.
