This collections consists of copies of Robert Rankin White's diaries, biographical information, unpublished manuscripts, articles, essays, and some original ephemera. Copies were made from originals now held by the Center for Southwest Research in Albuquerque.

Biography / History

Robert Rankin White was an art historian and author of articles, essays, and publications relating to the art, culture, and history of territorial New Mexico. His noted works include publishing the collected meeting minutes and documents of the Taos Society of Artists (1983), articles and essays on Taos Society of Artists member E. Martin Hennings, and co-authoring "Bert Geer Phillips and the Taos Art Colony" with Julie Schimmel in 1994.

White lectured extensively on his research and was an active participant in cultural organizations such as The Southwestern Art History Council, The Historical Society of New Mexico, and The New Mexico Book League, to name just a few.

His original diaries, travel journals, and the majority of his original papers are held at the Center for Southwest Research in Albuquerque.
