Scope and Content
MS-14, IAIA Artists Files (48 cu. ft), consist of primary and secondary source material related to Native American Artists. The collection is arranged alphabetically by artists last name. The artists files has been growing consistently since 1971 and is the most complete set of records on Native American artists available for research.
Each file will contain different materials related to the artist. Newspaper clippings, exhibit catalogs, application letters, slides of photographs, photographic prints, creative writing samples, admission records, and other biographical materials.

Biography / History
The Artists Files were started in 1971 by former IAIA faculty and museum director Charles Dailey. Dailey began to organize biographical files on three different categories of artists: IAIA Students and Graduates, Anglo Artists who worked on Indian themes, and non IAIA Indian artists. Dailey maintained the artists files until his retirement around 2000. Since then, the museum staff has been maintaining and growing the artists files until thier recent transfer to the Archives of IAIA.
Extent
6 legal size 4 drawer filing cabinets. The collection is located on the campus of IAIA, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The archives are located in the Library & Technology Center.

Processing Information
The collection was transferred to the Archives from the IAIA Museum of Contemporary Native Art in its original alphabetical arrangement. The original order has not been altered in any way.
