From the Collection:
The Institute of American Indian Arts Oral History collection consists of digital audio recordings, digital video recordings, transcripts, and associated documents related to interviews conducted since 2007. The content of the interviews is related to the history and background of the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Narrators included former IAIA faculty James McGrath and Charles Dailey; Former IAIA Student and current faculty Linda Lomahaftewa; Former IAIA staff member Robert Harcourt; and the sons of George A. Boyce, the first superintendent of IAIA.

Biographical / Historical
Charles Dailey was born in Golden, Colorado and entered the Marines in 1954. He was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California during his time in the military. Using the G.I. Bill, Dailey enrolled in the University of Colorado where he began to work at the University of Colorado Museum. After working at the Museum of Northern Arizona in Flagstaff for a year, Dailey came to Santa Fe in 1962 and began volunteering for the Museum of New Mexico and the Fine Arts Museum, eventually being obtaining work and being promoted to Director of Exhibits at the Museum of New Mexico in 1970. Dailey began working at the Institute of American Indian Arts in November of 1971, running both museum operations and the Museum Training program. Dailey worked at IAIA as faculty and Museum Director until his retirement in 2007. Dailey still serves IAIA as Professor Emeritus of Museum Studies.

Abstract
Charles Dailey discusses a variety of subjects including his early school years, his first contacts with Native peoples, his time in the United States Marine Corps, his education at the University of Colorado, his life with his late wife Carol and their travels around Europe and the United States viewing museums, his approach towards museum exhibitions, his employment with the Museum of Northern Arizona, Museum of New Mexico, and the Institute of American Indian Arts. The bulk of the interview is focused on his time at IAIA as museum director and faculty, the IAIA facility, IAIA students, and exhibits he had directed during his time at IAIA. People mentioned in the interview are James McGrath, T. C.
