Scope and Contents

From the Series: The thirteenth series of the Lloyd H. New Papers consists of 90 folders from 1959-2002 and is divided into 4 sub-series: General, Speeches, Essays, Drafts, and Handwritten Notes.

The first sub-series, General, contains 4 folders and includes Mr. New's credo, plays, and prayers.

The second sub-series, Speeches, contains 17 folders of Mr. New's addresses during 1968-2000 for Native American high school and college convocations and commencements, as well as for symposia in the US, Australia, Canada and South America.

The third sub-series, Essays, contains 61 folders of manuscripts from 1962-2001 for magazines, encyclopedias, exhibition catalogues, educational publications and in defense of the Institute of American Indian Arts.

The fourth sub-series, Drafts and Handwritten Notes, contains 8 folders of typed and handwritten documents with annotations that relate to many of the items in the first three sub-series. This sub-series is in its original order.
