Scope and Content

Schechter's collection consists of personal records (journals, scrapbooks, unpublished memoir chapters, news clippings, interviews and correspondence), professional records covering sales of art pieces and paper art products, paper art product prototypes and samples, original art and writing, photographs and slides, published works and unpublished projects.

Biography / History

Lorraine Schechter (born in March, 1945 and raised in New York City,) was a writer and artist who lived in Santa Fe, NM from the late 1980s until her death in 2016. Identifying as an artist from an early age, Schechter studied at Connecticut College and the University of Pennsylvania. After graduate school and time in Europe, she moved to Roxbury, CT to manage Alexander Caldwell's home and studio. From 1980 to 1988, Schechter sold paper art cards and paper sculptures through her business Lorraine Schechter Graphics.

In 1988,Schechter moved permanently to Santa Fe, where she wrote, produced, exhibited and taught art, taught yoga and practiced Buddhism until her death from cancer at the age of 70.
