Biographical Note

Randall Davey, a Santa Fe artist, is known for his vibrant racetrack scenes and sensitive portraits of female nudes. In 1908 he left Cornell University where he was studying architecture and became a student of Robert Henri. In 1919 Davey and John Sloan traveled from New York City to Santa Fe. Davey settled in Santa Fe, but he developed into a generalized impressionist rather than a painter of Southwestern themes. Davey combined a teaching career with painting for exhibitions and private clients.

Davey's Santa Fe home is an historic building. When he died in 1964 he left his home to his widowed sister-in-law, Kate H. Cullum. She opened a gallery and diligently promoted Randall Davey's work. When she died the Upper Canyon Road house and some oil paintings were left to the National Audubon Society.
