Historical Information

Peter Georg Aschwanden (1942-2005) was an artist and graphic illustrator who was best known for illustrating a number of automobile repair manuals for John Muir Publications (JMP) with the Volkswagen Beetle being most notable. This collection ranges from his early efforts at drawing to the financially successful ones at John Muir Publications (JMP) and later his own independent operation as Flathead Grafix, both in Santa Fe. Also included are family information and correspondence as well as financial and legal matters.

Aschwanden grew up in Rosemead, CA and moved many times, living in Mexico, San Francisco, New York and many places in northern New Mexico before settling in Santa Fe. Aschwanden married Deborah Reade and had two children, Francisco and Sophia.
