Scope and Content
Collection consists of letters, cards, miscellaneous legal and fiscal documents, and various pieces of ephemera. The bulk of this collection is authored by Frank W. Armstrong of New Mexico. Also included within the collection are various documents pertaining to the Armstrong family business, the San Marcial Mercantile Company in San Marcial, New Mexico.

Biographical Information
Frank W. Armstrong was a native New Mexican who spent the greater part of his life traveling around the world in service to both the US Army and the American Export Steamship Corporation. Born in San Marcial, New Mexico Armstrong had ties to both southern and northern New Mexico, later taking up residence in Albuquerque. In 1918 he was stationed in Marseilles, France as a Sargeant in the United States Army during World War I. In 1925 Armstrong was hired by the Export Steamship Corporation as a Purser, managing all the financial papers and transactions aboard the S.S. City of Eureka. Writing home to his wife Ruby Armstrong in Albuquerque, Frank recorded within his many letters both his thoughts and observations about all the different countries he visited.
