The collection contains personal history, correspondence, newsclippings, story ideas, plots, and drafts of stories as well as illustrations and cartoons by Hayes. There is also collected material of their community volunteer work with the Museum of New Mexico, Boy Scouts, and community theater.

Biographical Information

Kathryn Hitte was born November 23, 1919. She married Wiliam D. Hayes, April 2, 1960. Educated at Illinois College and the University of Illinois, she was a librarian, editorial consultant and writer of childrens' books. She wrote plays for children and adults. William Dimmity Hayes was born March 5, 1913. He was educated at Arizona State University, and the University of Missouri. He was a career journalist, syndicated cartoonist, and later illustrated and wrote children's stories.
