Biographical Note

The Spiegelberg family mercantile house was founded in 1846 by Solomon Jacob Spiegelberg. During the ensuing decades, he brought his four brothers into the firm which became officially known as The House of Spiegelberg Brothers. What started as a small retail grocery and dry goods store in Santa Fe became one of the largest wholesale operations in the Southwest.

Flora Spiegelberg, wife of Willie, one of the five brothers, added a dimension to the family's achievements as a writer, teacher, and socialite.
