Biographical Note

Schmidt, Henry A. (1861 - August 30-31, 1944)

Born in Germany, Schmidt moved to the United States in 1878. In 1882 as part of a survey team, Schmidt visited Chloride, NM and took up residence. He served in the militia during the Apache uprising of 1885. Primarily an assayer, he sometimes operated a photo studio as avocation. Active picturemaking began in the 1890s until 1924 in area of Chloride, Lake Valley, Winston, and Tyrone, with extensive coverage of mining in region.
