Series 4: Personal Manuscripts, circa 1912-1971, circa 1980s, 1993, undated
Series
Scope and Contents
Includes numerous manuscripts and typescripts written by Gustave Baumann about his life and career; artistic philosophy and woodcut technique; life in Santa Fe, New Mexico and the Southwest; friends and fellow artists; and marionettes. Also includes examples of Baumann’s creative writing. These manuscripts consist primarily of Baumann's unpublished personal writings, some of which were edited and published after his death by family members... and scholars, as well as scripts for public talks and stories, essays, and editorials published in local newspapers, most notably the Santa Fe New Mexican. Many of these manuscripts are undated and extremely fragmented, lacking any obvious sense of original order, and are therefore arranged topically. All manuscripts were written by Gustave Baumann unless otherwise noted.
