 File — Box: 5, Folder: 7

Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection contains the research materials that William deBuys used to produce a MA, a PhD, several books and many articles. Most of these concerned the environment in the Southwest, particularly the mountains of New Mexico and the Imperial Valley of California

When the Baca Ranch was purchased in 2000 resulting in the creation of the Valles Caldera National Preserve and the Valles Caldera Trust to manage the Preserve, deBuys served as chairman of the trust. As an ecologist he was concerned with anything that disturbed the natural rhythm of the environment, in particular the impact of human presence on the Pecos Wilderness and the Imperial Valley. Among the books that he wrote are Enchantment and Exploitation, River of Traps, and Salt Dreams
