Scope and Contents

Correspondence with Frank Springer, a lawyer, paleontologist, and close associate of Hewett who served on the Managing Committee of the School of American Archaeology/School of American Research. Topics include: the School of American Archaeology/School of American Research; Museum of New Mexico business and finances; the Palace of the Governors; archaeological excavations in New Mexico and Guatemala; the Panama-California Exposition in San Diego, California; the New Mexico Museum of Art; the Archaeological Institute of America; World War I; New Mexico state politics; and various personal and professional matters. Also includes the following: a manuscript and copy of Springer's article "The Field Session of the School of American Archaeology," Science, Vol. 32, No. 827, pp. 622-624, November 4, 1910; and a copy of "History of the Establishment of the School of American Archaeology and Museum of New Mexico in the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe (From Official Records)" from 1913.
