Scope and Contents

Correspondence with Hartley B. Alexander, Verle H. Annis, Louis E. Lord, Aberdeen O. Bowden, Zelia Nuttall, R. Gordon Vivian, Frances Densmore, and others concerning archaeology, museums, university business, and various other professional matters. Topics include: the School of American Research and University of New Mexico's archaeological field schools in the Jemez area and Chaco Canyon; Museum of New Mexico finances and administration; the Departments of Archaeology and Anthropology at the University of New Mexico and University of Southern California; archaeological work at the sites of Quarai and Chaco Canyon; and FERA (Federal Emergency Relief Administration), CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), and CWA (Civil Works Administration) projects in New Mexico. Includes correspondence before and after the death of archaeologist Zelia Nuttall concerning possible plans to purchase her home of Casa Alvarado in Coyoacan, Mexico City, Mexico, and turn it into a center for Mexican archaeology. Also includes the Final Report of the Archaeological Reconnaissance Party for Chaco Canyon, which was undertaken with the assistance of the CWA (Civil Works Administration) from 1933-1934.
