Correspondence concerning the following topics: the Museum of New Mexico; the joint summer field schools of the School of American Research and the University of New Mexico; Hewett's work as professor and head of the Department of Archaeology and Anthropology at UNM; the end of Hewett's work as Director of the San Diego Museum (now the San Diego Museum of Us); and the beginnings of the Laboratory of Anthropology in Santa Fe. Includes correspondence with Richard Charles Dillon, Paul A. F. Walter, George Meason Whicher, James Fulton Zimmerman, Paul A. F. Walter, E. B. Renaud, Kenneth M. Chapman, Junius Henderson, Rollin Harvelle Tanner, Alice Lee, Albert Ernest Jenks, Wesley Bradfield, Aleš Hrdlička, Matthew Williams Stirling, Hartley Burr Alexander, John Peabody Harrington, Kenneth J. Saunders, Anna Osler Shepard, and others. Also includes correspondence concerning plans for an archaeological survey of the Pueblo region, as well as UNM's efforts to acquire ownership of the Quarai and Abó ruins.
