Scope and Contents

Correspondence concerning the following topics: the School of American Archaeology; the SAA's 1910 summer field school in the Rito de los Frijoles area; the Archaeological Institute of America; lectures; Natural Bridges National Monument in Utah; the excavation and restoration of Balcony House in Mesa Verde National Park; Puye Cliff Dwellings; trades of archaeological material and human remains between the Museum of New Mexico and the Smithsonian Institution; Native American education and boarding schools; and archaeological work and research throughout the United States. Includes correspondence with Neil Merton Judd, Alice Kurtz, Maud Woy, Virginia McClurg, Edward Herbert Thompson, Anna L. Wolcott, and others. Also includes a 1910 permit from the Department of the Interior for archaeological excavations at Puye Cliff Dwellings, as well as a translated letter from a Council of Pueblo Indian leaders (written in the hand of Barbara Freire-Marreco).
