Scope and Content

From the Collection: This collection consists of the Rito de los Frijoles Gazette in two volumes, Volume, 1, 10 July 1910 and Volume 2, 1911 and the Rito de los Frijoles Gazette, to 22 August 1911 Magazine Supplement. The volumes appear to be written by different authors who were present at the Rito de los Frijoles camp, during the 1910 and 1911 excavations at what is now Bandelier National Monument.

In each volume, there are handwritten stories, drawings, poems, newspaper articles, and descriptions of excavations by members of the camp. Most of this material is undated. Many of the stories appear on letterhead of the Archaeological Institute of America, School of American Archaeology, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Charles F. Lummis and Frank Springer authored some of the material, but most of the others are either unidentified or are signed by initials or nicknames only. Other prominent persons mentioned in the articles were Donald Beauregard, Alice C. Fletcher, Edgar L. Hewett, Neil M. Judd, Barbara Friere-Marreco, Sylvanus G. Morley, Joseph. A. Munk, Jesse Nusbaum.
