Abstract

The collection contains 3,800+ slide photographs compiled by author, educator, and landscape specialist John Brinckerhoff (J. B.) Jackson. Photographs includes those taken by Jackson himself as well as those produced by other photographers at Jackson's request. These slide photographs were donated by two former students of Jackson, Paul Groth, and Marc Treib, as well as Chris Wilson. Collection also includes a selection of prints.

Collection contains textual materials such as course materials, manuscripts, correspondence, and class notes relating to J. B. Jackson, accumulated from a variety of sources. Collection is organized by donor series.

Scope and Content The J.B. Jackson papers contain typed and handwritten drafts and manuscripts of books, lectures, essays and articles. Extensive subject files on topics related to his writings provide insight into his influences and methods of research. Topics reflect Jackson's work and personal interest in landscape studies, human geography, vernacular architecture, settlement patterns, and public spaces, focusing on Europe and the United States.
