Abstract

The John Gaw Meem Drawings and Plans consist of architectural drawings, including floor plans, elevations, preliminary sketches, site surveys, details, and perspectives. Designs for residences, churches, school buildings, and commercial structures are included, many of them fashioned in the Pueblo Revival and Territorial Styles that are popular in the Southwest.

Files consist of correspondence, proposals, specifications, bids, contracts, contractor accounts, progress notes, change orders, schematics, soil analysis, photographs, and certificates of payment.

This collection contains John Gaw Meem's personal and business records. Business files consist primarily of correspondence from his architectural firm. Also included are materials relating to Meem's professional associations and his work on historic preservation in New Mexico.

Scope and Content The Department of Facility Planning collection is comprised of approximately 800 sets of architectural drawings and plans for campus buildings at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. A small number of drawings are for buildings on the Gallup campus and for the University owned D. H. Lawrence Ranch outside Taos, New Mexico.
