Scope and Contents
This collection holds the final drafts and images of “Albuquerque’s Environmental Story: Educating for a Sustainable Community, 3rd Edition.” The first edition of “Albuquerque’s Environmental Story” was published in 1978. Series I (box 1) of the collection holds the third edition which is comprised of an introduction, five sections, and an appendix. The first section outlines the major natural areas in and around Albuquerque. Section two focuses on Albuquerque’s built environment, while section three outlines Albuquerque’s human environment. The fourth section looks at the home, school and neighborhood as “mini-environments,” and section five dissects Albuquerque in the present and looks toward the future. Each section contains suggested activities which integrate various subject areas and are adaptable to various grade levels.
Series II (box 2) of the collection holds information regarding Albuquerque’s Environmental Story’s (AES) 501(c)(3), meeting notes, email correspondence, publication receipts, edits, and photo logs. These meeting notes and correspondences relay the internal dynamics of the friends group and not-for-profit as it transitioned from the published third edition to creating digital content, moving Albuquerque’s Environmental Story from a published work to a more interactive tool in website and CD-Rom formats.
