Scope and Content
This collection contains a scrapbook, correspondence between Alice Gill Benton and other poets and literary editors (including Peggy Pond Church and Carey Holbrook), clippings, letters and prizes from literary journals, 2 black and white photos of Benton, and several books of poetry owned by Benton (but not written by her). Some of these include Benton's hand-written notes in the margins, thus demonstrating the ways in which they were influential to her.

Biographical Information
Alice Gill Benton, 1890-1979, was educated at the University of Southern California, the University of New Mexico, and Kansas State Teachers' College. She worked as a teacher of elementary school and as a high school history and botany teacher. Benton was president of the Phi Beta Kappa Association in New Mexico and the president of the Albuquerque branch of the National League of American Pen Women. She published three volumes of poetry (Milestones, See the Earth New, and Janus Had Two Faces). Benton was an active member of several literary associations and contributed to numerous journals of poetry. She resided in Albuquerque, New Mexico until her death in 1979.
