Scope and Content
This collection consists of portraits of local dignitaries, politicians and people of note which were produced in the Albright Art Parlors studios in Santa Fe and Albuquerque between 1880 and 1912 by resident operators. These portraits (on cabinet, boudoir and some larger card stock) offer a glimpse into the people and styles current in New Mexico during this period of time.

Biographical Information
Emma Luse Mills was born in Pennsylvania around 1849-1852. She married John G. Albright in Howard Kansas in 1873. They moved to Santa Fe in 1880 when Mr. Albright bought Era Southwestern newspaper, which he operated as the Evening Journal before moving his operation to Albuquerque when he bought a number of other local papers. In addition to her husband's successful publishing business, Emma established Albright Art Parlors portrait studio in Albuquerque. Emma (also known as Franc L. Albright) had a substantial presence in the New Mexico Territory serving on numerous boards. Frank Wendall was the photographer of note at Albright Art Parlors and was renowned for his portrait work, often enhanced with crayon, ink, pastel and oil paint by Emma. Emma died suddenly of a heart attack in Albuquerque, NM on February 19, 1912.
