Scope and Content

The discipline of engineering and related fields has a long evolution at New Mexico Highlands University. Viewed from one perspective, it dates back to the early part of the twentieth century, when the university offered courses in “Manual Training.” Such courses became part of the “Industrial Education” program in the 1930s. During World War II the university offered a wide variety of vocational classes. These evolved into offerings in “Industrial Technology.” In the late 1980s various courses in engineering entered the curriculum, while “industrially” oriented courses waned.
